Round 7 - Eastern Lions

Knox City V Eastern Lions 21/5/2011

Final scores: Knox City FC 0 - Eastern Lions 5 (Loss)

On a perfect day for football Eastern Lions were the opponents for a game that both Clubs look forward to. On this occasion only one Club left happy and that was Eastern Lions.

Knox again made changes bringing in goalkeeper Cristiano Morales, midfielder Andes Jerez and returning to the fold Matt Evans who has been in the UK trialling with the big League clubs. However the changes did not have the desired affect of lifting the performance to a level that was competitive with Eastern Lions.

The first half started reasonably enough but once Eastern Lions got their noses in front Knox did not seem to know what to do about it. The first goal while resulting from a good move and shot was deflected to leave Morales in goal with no chance. The second goal came from a free kick which the Knox defence did not react to quickly enough. The free kick pushed to the right of the penalty box was crossed into the goal area for the second goal.

The Easter Lions forwards Oran Harel and Munya Nyadzao were giving Nick Veljovic, Phil Hawkins, Michael Hoogendyk and Matt Evans plenty of problems and the teams went to half time with Knox having plenty to think about.

Ben Rowbotham did not come out for the second half having taken a heavy knock to the head and with suspected concussion compounding the absence of Craig Kerr not having taken his place in the team for the second week in a row.

Gavin Moon was working hard in midfield against an Eastern Lions midfield that included Fabian Crea were creating many chances for their team. On the Knox forward line Phil Ajao and Shayann Missaghi were getting no change out of the Eastern Lions defence particularly Michael McLuskey in the centre of defence.

Eastern Lions scored three goals in the second half, the last one by Nyadzao put the icing on the cake, running onto a pass he lobbed the ball over Morales in goal for a very neat finish and a 5-0 scoreline.

Reserves Final scores: Knox City FC 4 - Eastern Lions 1 (Win)

After the recent series of results much has to be done to get the team back on track but in the case of the reserves this are looking better. Knox second on the ladder playing Eastern Lions at first glance looked a fairly even contest. Not so. Knox ran out very easy winners with two goals to Tom Szabo and one apiece to Rien McDonald and Adrian Savage to go back to the top of the table.

Next week the Club is away to Noble Park
