Knox City V Dandenong City At Egan Lee Reserve 17/4/2011
Final scores: Knox City FC 1 - Dandenong City 3 (Loss)
After a morale boosting win last week away to Morwell, Knox were looking for a good result last Saturday against Dandenong at Egan Lee while Dandenong were looking to come back from a defeat last week to Casey Comets.
Both teams started brightly with Hawkins marshalling the Knox defence against a team that was posing problems with their height in the forward line led by Juric. This early pressure led to a goal in the 8th minute to Dandenong when a centre from the right was miskicked by Kasehagen of Knox and the ball ended up in the Knox net.
Knox fought back with attacks down both wings and in the 29th minute a pass into the penalty area found Rowbotham who was shouldered off the ball when not in possession. The resultant penalty was taken by Missaghi but his shot was saved by Klarica the Dandenong goalkeeper.
With the score 1-0 to Dandenong at half time Knox came out for the second half and immediately drew level with a goal by Phil Ajao after he met a centre from the right.
Dandenong continued to pose problems especially high balls into the Knox penalty area. But Hoogendyk and Hawkins were able to repel the attacks until Dandenong eventually found a way through in the 64th minute when Gordon ran onto a pass twenty five yards from goal and hit a first time shot past Marshall in the Knox goal. The Knox forwards were causing problems for the Dandenong defence with Ajao and Valadon prominent. Kerr and Moon both worked hard in the Knox midfield but the Dandenong team scored again in the 73rd minute through Carroll.
Knox were unable to make any impression in the time remaining on a Dandenong team that was very determined to win.
Reserves
Final scores: Knox City FC 0 - 1 (LOSS)
The Reserves were defeated 1-0 in a game that did not get to great heights. Although both teams fought hard to gain an advantage they were both guilty of poor passes and there were very few chances to either side. In the last two minutes a Dandenong pass though the centre was not cleared and indecision between the Duong and the goalkeeper McEvoy led a penalty from which Bosnjak scored to give Dandenong the win.
The next game is against Heatherton on 30th April as next week is Easter and no games are scheduled.
